Barbara received her Feldenkrais certification in 1994 and has been in private practice for almost 25 years. She has also worked continuously as a Child'Space educator and trainer since her 2009 certification. She holds a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling with advanced training and supervision in Infant Mental Health. For eight years, she worked with families with pre-term babies, teen-age parents and other at-risk situations through The Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County. She received their Mission Award for her work with parents of substance-exposed newborns.
The Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education played a primary role when Barbara was recovering from dance injuries. Founded by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, the Method uses directed attention, touch and movement lessons to change habitual patterns in everyday movement as well as fitness and creative activities. Barbara included the Method as part of the Movement for Actors program she directed for the FSU/Asolo Conservatory. Today she incorporates the Feldenkrais Method in her group or private lessons with active adults.
Chava Shelhav, founder and international director of the Child'Space Method, selected Barbara to teach at certification trainings in Chicago, New York, Japan and Argentina. Barbara also teaches and serves as Educational Director of The Brats Club SRQ, a unique program of group classes for parents and their infants and toddlers. Based on the developmental movement concepts of Child'Space, the program integrates fine motor, early language, cognitive and social-emotional growth through play with a purpose.
